Kartoffeln Kloesse

German's from Russia recipe

Dad asked for this dish. Grandma Amelia used to talk about potatoes and dumplings (Kartoffeln Glase).... well lets try it.

Ingredients

3

White Potatoes

2 C flour
2 eggs
1 tsp salt

3/4 tsp

baking powder (opt)

1 onion (diced)
1/2 pint cream
2 Tbls butter
1 bunch green onions

Preparation

  1. Cube potatoes and boil in large kettle with a salt and water until almost done

  2. While the potatoes are boiling, mix the flour, eggs, salt and baking powder together. Add 1 Cup of water to make a medium batter.

  3. This makes the dumplings.

  4. Drop dumplings by 1/2 tablespoon into boiling potatoes. Cook until dumplings flot to top or are not doughy

  5. Drain & put in a serving bowl

  6. Dice 1 onion and brown in butter

  7. Add cream to desired consistency and heat until warm

  8. Pour over dumplings and potatoes & serve

  9. Optionally serve with diced green onion or toasted bread cubes on top

  10. Non-Creamed option:
    Brown the onion in butter and add the potatoes and dumplings and cook until browned.
